Features Configuration
Note: Only All Sites Admins have full access to configuration.
Have you completed the basic configuration?
The features available to you depend on the modules you're licensed for. We've broken down configuration by feature functionality rather than by module.
Sending Notifications
There are a multitude of ways to send notifications within your organization – from within the UI, by dialing a number, by using a device or mobile app, etc.
- from my dashboard
- by dialing a number on a phone
- by pressing a button on my phone or using the phone's menu
- by pressing a panic button, when a door opens, or by utilizing some other IP device. See IP Device Configuration.
- to the Mitel Revolution Mobile Application app
- from the Mitel Revolution Mobile Application app
- to analog speakers and paging systems
- to digital signs
- to my users' desktops
- as text-to-speech to my users' mobile devices (requires users be set up as contacts)
- to my users' email addresses (requires users be set up as contacts)
- as a text message (requires users be set up as contacts)
- automatically according to a calendar scheduled event
- to my Adaptive Displays
How do I...
- use a phone to make a live broadcast to other phones and/or speakers
- use two speakers as an intercom
- record a message to send in a notification
- solicit responses to my notification
- have a calendar scheduled event automatically send notifications
- check the status of notifications I've sent
- group endpoints together to make it easier to assign them to notifications
- dynamically add endpoints to sites (multi-site organizations only)
- manually create contacts
- import contacts from Active Directory, a CSV file, or CUCM
- invite people to create their own contact record using the Intrado Self-Management Portal
- invite contacts to use the Mitel Revolution Mobile Application app (people must have a contact record first)
- assign contacts to sites (multi-site organizations only)
- group contacts together to make it easier to assign them to notifications
- dynamically assign contacts to sites (multi-site organizations only)
How do I send notifications to contacts?
- via email addresses
- using the Mobile app
- as SMS text message or text-to-speech
How do I check the status of notifications I've sent?
How do I manage contacts?
- bulk assign contacts to sites
- bulk delete contacts
- allow contacts to manage their own contact record through the Intrado Self-Management Portal
You can use the Webhook Notifier to send notifications to third-party applications, for example:
- Connecting to Collaboration Tools – Including Slack and Microsoft Teams.
- Connecting to Social Media Services – Including Facebook and X.
Analog speakers and paging systems are connected through a gateway. You then create SIP endpoints either to the switch or each individual device depending on your setup. The SIP endpoint is then assigned to notifications.
You can send notifications to people's mobile devices (both people internal and external to your organization). People must be set up as contacts in order to receive notification to the Mobile app. You can also allow your end users to send notifications from the Mobile app.
- invite contacts to use the Mobile App
- send notifications to the Mobile app
- allow Revolutionusers to send notifications from within the Mobile app
- allow contacts to send notifications from within the Mobile app
- use geofencing with the Mobile app
Integrating With Third-Parties
- import user accounts from Active Directory
- import user accounts from a CSV file
- import user accounts from CUCM
Customers using Cisco, Mitel, and/or Poly phones can monitor numbers dialed and trigger notifications for certain numbers, such as 9-1-1.
- set up dial monitoring in CUCM for Cisco phones
- set up dial monitoring in Mitel MiVoice Connect or MiVoice Business for Mitel phones
- set up dial monitoring for Poly phones
Phone service triggers provide a way to trigger notifications or dial a number from your phones' softkeys.
Most CAP alerts are government-issued emergency alerts for events related to weather, air quality, natural disasters, homeland security, etc. You can also create your own CAP alert feed.
Before configuring any CAP alert, we recommend you review the following:
How do I...
- receive AMBER alerts and forward them to my users and contacts
- receive IPAWS alerts and forward them to my users and contacts
- receive NWS (National Weather Service) alerts and forward them to my users and contacts
- receive other CAP alerts and forward them to my users and contacts
- create my own CAP alert feed
- send my CAP feed to a digital sign
There are several ways to do this:
- Tokens – Tokens and the Revolution Cloud API allows cloud service providers to integrate their products with Revolution. You generate an authorization token and create triggers associated with it, which then allows cloud service products to trigger your notifications.
- SNMP Trap triggers – If the 3rd-party product is SNMP-compliant, you can configure the 3rd-party product to send SNMP Trap messages to Revolution. You then create generic SNMP Trap triggers and assign them to your notifications. Revolution listens for a Trap message. When it receives one, it triggers the notification the SNMP Trap trigger is assigned to.
- Desktop Shortcut – You can write a script that allows your end users to send an emergency alert notification using a desktop shortcut
- URL – You can create a URL to include with other applications such as email. When the URl is entered in a browser, it triggers a notification.
Developers can use the API to integrate their products with Revolution.
Managing the System
You may need to unlicense endpoints that automatically registered because you don't want to use them with. You can also bulk or dynamically assign endpoints to sites (multi-site organizations only).
- manage my phones
- manage my speakers
- unlicense/license endpoints I don't want to use with Revolution
- bulk delete endpoints
- bulk assign endpoints to sites (multi-site organizations only)
- dynamically assign endpoints to sites (multi-site organizations only)
- change your user account password
- update the SQL database password
- reset the admin password
You can create status triggers to assign to notifications to automatically alert you when
- critical endpoints have become inactive
- a module is in a warning or red state
- you are reaching or have exceeded your license limits
Using Additional Security and Failover
Your organization's security policies may require you to implement additional layers of security. Check with you network administrator.
- Windows TLS security for Revolution.
- SSL for Cisco Call Manager
If your organization is licensed for the Redundancy feature, once you finish configuring your primary Revolution server, you'll need to install Revolution on any secondary servers and complete the redundancy set up.
