Live Broadcast/Paging Notification
This type of notification is used when you want to make a live announcement to other phones and speakers. This is often referred to as paging. Live broadcasts are initiated by dialing a line number. Multiple endpoints can receive your announcement.
Note: If your application is not configured to use line numbers to trigger notifications, you cannot use this notification type.
Go to Notifications > Manage and select New Notification.
- Provide a descriptive name that's meaningful to your users.
- Select One-Way from the Notification Types drop-down list.
- Select a Priority level for the notification. Not all endpoints support priority levels. Check the endpoint vendor documentation.
- Leave the Dashboard Icon field blank. Live broadcast notifications are not available for assignment to the Dashboard.
-
For multi-site organizations, do one of the following:
- If you're an All Sites Admin or All Sites Editor – To assign this notification to a specific site, disable Available in All Sites and select a Site from the drop-down list. Alternatively, you can leave it Available to All Sites.
- If you're a Site Admin or Site Editor – This notification is automatically assigned to your default site. Each Site Admin will need to create their own triggers.
-
Select SIP Activator from the Activator drop-down list.
Note: One-Way notifications can only be triggered by dialing a line number, therefore SIP Activator is the only option available.
-
Select a line number from the Trigger drop-down list.
Note: The same line number cannot be assigned to multiple live broadcast and recorded notifications.
-
Select the Trigger Behavior. In most cases it should be Activate.
Live broadcasts are initiated by dialing the assigned line number from any phone in the network.
- Select Custom from the Caller ID drop-down list and enter a descriptive name. For this example, morning announcements always come from the Principal.
- (Optional) Select an audio tone from the Opening Tone drop-down list. This gets people's attention before you begin speaking.
- (Optional) Select an audio tone from the Closing Tone drop-down list. This lets people know you're finished.
- For Volume, select a value for the notification. This volume overrides the volume set on the endpoint receiving the notification, such as a phone or speaker. Alternately, you can select Use device default instead of setting the volume in the notification, which means that the audio plays at 80% of the volume set for the speaker. See Endpoints > Volume for more information on where you can set the default volume for speakers.
- Leave Select Image blank. For this example, my announcement goes to speakers, so I don't need an image.
- Leave Font Color blank.
- Leave Title blank. For this example, since this is a live broadcast to speakers, I'm not including text.
- Leave Body blank. For this example, since this is a live broadcast to speakers, I'm not including text.
- Leave 'Clear notification...' unchecked. For this example, there is no text included, and thus nothing to clear.
If I did decide to include text with this live broadcast, it might look something like this:
This text displays while the caller is speaking. Notice that I checked 'Clear notification ...'. This ensures the text notification clears off the display screen when I hang up the phone I'm calling from for the live broadcast.
Tip: When creating your own live broadcast notifications, you may decide to include images. You can repeat this step to select an additional image. Best practice is to select no more than two images in order to support different endpoint screen sizes. If you do want to use more than two images, make sure the assigned endpoints are capable of displaying them.
You can use this section to create notification actions as part of the notification. See Add Endpoint Responses and Notification Action Types.
This example does not use any notification actions.
- Leave 'Allow users to add endpoints dynamically' at None. For this example, morning announcements always go to all the speakers so there's no need to enter them on the fly. See Understanding Triggers for more information on dynamic endpoints.
- Select each endpoint, contact, or tag you want to receive the notification. Tags are groups of endpoints and/or contacts, where User Tags were created by your system administrator and System Tags were automatically created by the application. The live broadcast can also be received by the Mitel Revolution Mobile Application app – check Mobile as the Communication Method; click Contacts and select the recipients. Your live broadcast is recorded and then forwarded to the Mobile app. This is a one-time recording. The recording is not saved for future use.
- Leave Contact Methods unchecked. While I'm not including contacts as recipients for this example, you could. Live broadcasts are recorded and sent to contacts through the Mobile app and email. These recordings are not saved in Revolution.
-
Do not select Mobile App Geofence Boundaries or a General Purpose Output Relay Mode.
For this example, I'm only using my overhead speakers as endpoints, and I have a tag created for that.
If you added a tag or endpoint by mistake, click the trashcan next to it to remove it from the selected list.
- Select Save.
Dial the line number assigned.
Wait for the opening tone to finish, if you're using one.
Begin speaking.
After you hang up, the closing tone plays, if you're using one.
Tip: If you're using a Cisco IP phone for your live broadcast and put the phone on hold, the notification is terminated so that the hold music doesn't play out to the endpoints assigned to the notification. Only Cisco IP phones support this functionality.
Revolution records this notification and saves it for a designated length of time defined by your system administrator in Global Settings > Notification Status > Notification Status Media Expiration.
To listen to the recording:
- Go to Notifications > Sent.
- Select the notification to open it.
- Select View Notification to play the recordings. See Sent Notifications.
