Configuration Overview
- Only All Sites Admins have full access to configuration.
- You will only see items in the Configuration navigation bar that you are licensed for.
We've broken down configuring Revolution into three parts just to make tasks simpler:
- Basic Configuration – This is the minimum configuration you need to do before you create a notification and test your system.
- Feature Configuration – Once you've tested that a basic notification with text, image, and audio can be received on your endpoints, you can begin to configure all the other features.
- Advanced Configuration – These are global settings that you may want to adjust to better meet your environment, or additional security configurations you may need to make to meet your organization's policy requirements.
Do this first:
-
Configure Your DHCP Server – Set your DHCP server option 72 to the Revolution IP address so IP devices automatically register with Revolution.
-
Configure SIP trunks - See Set up your PBX System to set up your PBX system to communicate using SIP trunks (Cisco, Mitel, Avaya, or some other VoIP systems)
You can make these configurations in whatever order you choose.
- Configure Multicast – Multicast is highly recommended when sending audio with notifications. Confirm with your network administrator that either your network is configured for multicast or Syn-Apps Paging Relay(s) have been installed and configured.
- Configure Your Phones – Configure communication between your phone system and Revolution so that supported IP phones can register with Revolution and be assigned as notification endpoints.
- Configure Your Speakers – Make sure your speakers registered through DHCP option 72. Configure any speakers that don't register through DHCP option 72, for example: Honeywell's X-618 DCS.
- Set Up Sites – If your organization has multiple sites, you can assign user accounts, triggers, notifications, and endpoints to specific sites. If your organization will use only one site, skip this configuration.
- Create Line Numbers – If want to trigger notifications by entering a line number from any phone, you'll need to add the SIP lines you want to use. A SIP trunk must first be configured in your phone system communication manager before you add SIP lines in Revolution. SIP lines are then available to be assigned to notifications as triggers.
- Create User Accounts – Create a user account for yourself and each end user who will be accessing Revolution.
Important: Multicast is required if you're using Honeywell X-618 speakers or Poly phones.
Note: Devices, such as IP speakers, may need to be rebooted in order to register.
Next, test your basic configuration.
Create a basic Stored Audio notification type, include text and image, and send to the registered endpoints to make sure basic configuration is working properly before configuring additional features.
Revolution includes lots of features that allow you to customize the system to your needs.
Here are just a few common features. See Features for a full list.
Make it easier to send notifications:
- Group endpoints together with User Tags to make assigning them to notifications quicker.
- Create Destination Codes for a quick way to assign endpoints on the fly when triggering a notification using a line number on a phone.
- Automatically trigger notifications using Calendar events.
Extend notifications to:
- internal and external contacts' communication devices (email, SMS, mobile). This feature requires that Contacts be set up.
- your end-users' Desktops.
Customize your notifications:
- Add your company name, icon, and banner to display in notifications.
- Add your own Media (images, audio) for notifications.
Make sure to test your configurations.
You may or may not need to make adjustments to global settings. You may need to work with your network administrator on making adjustments to meet your network and organization needs.
- Change the IP device polling interval, see Configuring IP Device Global Settings.
- Review Global Settings.
- Create complex AMBER, National Weather Service, and IPAWS (Integrated Public Alert Warning System) Alerts – You can create filters to more narrowly focus the alerts that trigger notifications. We recommend beginning with CAP Activator Overview topic.
- Configure Reachable Multicast Networks if you have multiple multicast networks you want the system to reach, or you are using a different CIDR device setting, configure this for Revolution in Global Settings for individual Paging Relay devices from IP Devices page. These configurations require advanced networking knowledge.
- Set up additional layers of security such as TLS/SSL, if your security policies require it.
- Create notifications and test sending them.
- Review user tasks.
