Features Overview

The Paging Relay device provides many features whether you're using it with or without Revolution.

Tip: If you're using the Paging Relay without Revolution and without a PBX communications manager, jump to Using the Paging Relay Alone.

Unicast-to-Multicast – Source multicast audio streams to remote WAN sites.

Revolution Integration – Direct integration with Revolution allows users to instantly initiate and distribute Revolution notifications from the Paging Relay to selected devices.

Remote Site Failover – Configure the Paging Relay to work with SRST (Survivable Remote Site Telephony) routers to provide fault-tolerance in multisite deployments. SRST direct paging supports standalone operation to 500 Cisco IP phones. See Direct Paging.

Direct Paging – You can directly page up to 500 Cisco IP phones. To set up Direct Paging, you need to do one of the following:

Background Music – Stream background music to IP and analog speakers. Useful in lobbies, hallways, retail floors, and more.

Music on Hold (MoH) – Play music on hold for callers waiting in a call queue or simply placed on hold.

Analog Speaker Integration – Make use of existing analog PA systems to send pages to phones and speakers simultaneously. Connect analog PA systems via the 600ohm or Line Out jacks on the Paging Relay.

Smart Detection & Alerting – Use relay and contact closure sensors to perform an action – close windows and doors, turn on lights and sirens, send Revolution notifications, play an audio when motion is detected, etc.

  • Sensor Contact Closures –Trigger an audio file stored locally on the Paging Relay through a sensor contact closure, such as a bell tone playing when a customer crosses your business' entrance. You can also trigger a Revolution notification from the Paging Relay when a sensor contact closes, such as sending an emergency notification to a specific IP phone when a panic button is pushed.
  • Relay Contact Closures – Trigger a relay contact closure. The relay contact closure triggers whatever endpoints are connected to the Paging Relay – close fire doors, lock windows, turn on strobe lights and sirens, etc. For Revolution customers, the Paging Relay - Relay can be assigned to a notification so that relay contact closures happen when the notification is sent.

Night Ringer – Broadcast announcements to overhead speakers to alert personnel of an incoming call. This is useful in warehouses where staff may not be near the phone or in a garden center where staff is outside.

Using the Paging Relay Alone

The Paging Relay can still be used even if you don't have a PBX communications manager or Revolution.

You can:

  • page to IP speakers and analog PA speakers – Use SIP Peer-to-Peer dialing to the Paging Relay.
  • play background music over speakers – Follow the Play Background Music and Music on Hold instructions. Setup for background music and MoH in the Paging Relay is essentially the same. You'll then follow the steps to play background music over your speakers.
  • play an audio file over speakers, triggered by a sensor contact closure – See Sensor Contact Closure for more use case scenarios and Sensor Contact Closure Configurations for instructions.
