Easy Setup
If your organization utilizes a DHCP server to dynamically assign IP addresses, getting started with the Paging Relay is as easy as plugging it in on your Voice VLAN. If you don't use a DHCP server, instructions are provided in the Setup section.
Port | Description |
---|---|
20480-32767 | UDP, RTP - multicast or unicast |
80 | HTTP - registration and heartbeats to Revolution; commands to phones in standalone environment; Authentication URL uses port 80 for auth requests |
6789 | TCP - Syn-Apps IP device protocol |
Communication between every device must be bidirectional so that registration packets can be sent and received.
Switch port settings
These are the minimum settings we recommend.
- 100 Mbps (no support for 1GB)
- Full duplex
- Flow control enabled
- Portfast enabled
See Switch Port Configuration for specific instructions for Cisco customers and a general idea of what to configure for other switch brands.
Typically, the Paging Relay is configured to reside in the Voice VLAN, get its IP address from a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), and auto-registers to Revolution via the DHCP Option 72 WWW server value.
This is the quickest way to get started with the Paging Relay device.
Connect the Paging Relay device to a POE (802.3af) switch port using an ethernet cable.
The Paging Relay firmware immediately runs a series of diagnostic tests and automatically registers the device in Revolution.
Status and Paging lights alternate flashing on startup. Once the Paging Relay device is running, the Status light flashes between blue and white. See Getting to know the device for more information. The device sends a "heart beat" every 2 minutes.
Note: If you're not using a DHCP server, plug the device in and follow the Static IP Setup instructions instead.
If the DHCP server IP request goes unanswered, then follow the Static IP Setup > Using a Non-DHCP Server instructions instead.
Note: Skip this if you're using Paging Relays in a standalone environment.
Log into Revolution, go to Configuration > IP Devices, and verify that the Paging Relay is listed and its Status is Active.
Review the Paging Relay topic in the Revolution Help for information on using the Paging Relay with Revolution.
Tip: When Paging Relays are configured on the network, Revolution automatically uses them for audio. There's nothing additional you need to configure for this. You do not need to enabled multicast in the Paging Relay.
