Maintenance Overview

The Paging Relay provides several features to make maintaining the device easy:

  • Reset to default audio files – If you've customized existing files but need to return to the originals, you can reset to the default audio files stored locally on the Paging Relay.
  • Backup and restore Paging Relay configurations - If you've made a lot of configuration changes, it's always a good idea to have a backup, just in case.
  • Change the multicast time to live (TTL) - This is the number of network routers or hops packets can travel through before being dropped. The default value is 255, which allows packets to travel through an indefinite number of routers. This works just fine for most environments. But if your environment requires you to throttle that down, you can do so.
  • Use standard Syslog monitoring – Syslog is a way for network devices to send event messages to a logging server. Your network administrator determines whether you need to enable this in the Paging Relay.
  • Update Syn-Apps' IP speaker firmware – It's good to stay up to date.
  • Update the Paging Relay firmware – It's good to stay up to date.
  • Use autoprovisioning – This feature allows you to override Paging Relay settings with settings from an external XML file hosted on a remote TFTP or HTTP server.
