Cisco Multiplatform Phones
OneAlert supports Cisco IP phones with multiplatform firmware that are not linked to the CUCM. To recognize these phones, you will alter the Cisco module settings and the settings of the phones. You can send text to the phones via endpoints and audio via multicast and a static stream.
Provide credentials for the multiplatform phones and a boot screen logo through the Cisco module settings tab.
- Go to Configuration > Phone Systems > Cisco
- Select the Settings tab
For Multiplatform Phone Admin Password, enter the password used to log in to the Cisco Configuration Utility for the phone (http://<phone_ip_address>/admin). This enables OneAlert to have access to more details about the phone.
Note: All of your Cisco multiplatform phones must use the same password for OneAlert to recognize them.
- For Multiplatform Phone Logo Icon, select the image to be used on the boot screen of the phone.
Because these phones are not linked to a call manager, you must set them up such that OneAlert can identify the phones. This is accomplished by linking them through the use of a boot screen logo.
- Log in to the Cisco Configuration Utility for the phone (http://<phone_ip_address>
- Select the Voice tab, then the User tab.
-
For Logo URL, enter a location similar to:
http://<Revolution_IP>:<port>/Cisco/LogoReg
where <port> is typically 80, unless you are using a load balancer or replicator.
This serves two purposes:
- First, the phone will use this location for the phone boot screen image you specified when Setting up the Cisco Module.
- Second, OneAlert, via the Cisco module, record the phone information from this location and adds it as an endpoint.
-
Configure your phone to listen to a multicast IP and port. Refer to the Cisco documentation.
You will use this information when Creating a Static Stream.
-
(optional) Define the behavior for when a notification is sent to a phone that is on an active call. By default, the call will be interrupted by the notification. To alter this behavior, you will need to specify the desired priority (pri) setting in the multicast paging scripts. Refer to your Cisco documentation for detailed information (Multiple Paging Group Parameters).
Note: In all scenarios, a user will not be able to put the notification on hold and cannot mix the notification and call audio after putting the call on hold. Once the notification ends, they can then pick up the call.
- Select Submit All Changes.
- Reboot the phone.
Cisco multiplatform phones require multicast for any audio portions of a notification, therefore you must create a static stream
- Go to Configuration > Static Stream.
- Select Stream > New Static Stream.
- For Name, enter a value so that you can easily recognize the generated endpoint.
- For IP Address and Port, enter the information for the multicast network used by your phones. See Setting up the Multiplatform Phones.
- (Optional) Complete Route to Networks as needed for your network. See Static Stream Notifier.
- Select Save.
When you send a notification to Cisco multiplatform phones, you must send audio separately from text and images. The following list outlines how you set up the Endpoint & Contact Selection portion of the notification.
- Text and Images only – For Endpoints, select the registered phone.
- Audio only – For Endpoints, select the static stream you created.
- Audio, Text and Images – For Endpoints, select both the registered phone and the static stream.
One possible use of Cisco multiplatform phones is to configure them for use with a Cisco WebEx Calling environment through the use of the Webex Calling SIP trunk.
Cisco WebEx Calling is a cloud-based phone system.
Use the following procedure to configure Cisco WebEx Calling, OneAlert, and your Cisco Multiplatform phones.
-
Configure your Cisco WebEx Calling environment to set up a SIP trunk. See the external site Configure Trunks, Route Groups, and Dial Plans for WebEx Calling for the Cisco setup information.
-
Using the information provided with your WebEx Calling SIP trunk, configure your SIP settings and create a OneAlert SIP Registration. See Create a OneAlert SIP Registration.
-
Follow the setup instructions Cisco Multiplatform Phones, described above.
